Biography

Alice is an Indonesian soprano currently based in Singapore, who actively performs in recitals, concerts, operas, and musicals around Asia and Europe. Born in Jakarta, she moved to Singapore in 2016 on a full scholarship to pursue her bachelor's degree in voice at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, one of Southeast Asia's most prestigious schools, under the guidance of Professor Alan Bennett and then to Hungary in 2020 also on a full scholarship from the Stipendium Hungaricum to pursue her master's degree in Opera Singing at the University of Pécs, Hungary under the guidance of Katalin Károlyi

Alice's most notable accomplishments includes reaching the semi-finals of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition 2022 (Latvia),  placing 2nd in the 4th category of the 9th International Singing Competition Lav Mirski (Croatia), second in the Tembang Puitik Ananda Sukarlan 2021 (Indonesia), and 3rd in the voice category of the 2019 Conservatory Concerto Competition (Singapore). She also performed as a soloist in the Tunjukkan Matahari Terbenam di Timur concert, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia premiering Indonesian art song by Indonesian composer, Ananda Sukarlan, which were based on the late Umbu Landu Paranggi's poetry.

During her time in Hungary, Alice debuted as Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) under the direction of Kocsár Balázs, principal music director of the Hungarian State Opera House and also in KMD Dubrovnik (Croatia). Other recent roles/scenes that she has performed there include Adele (Die Fledermaus) – directed by Éva Varga, Despina (Così fan Tutte) – directed by Samuel Tóth, Zerlina (Don Giovanni).

In Singapore, she actively participates in concerts such as the Bach Cantatas Series with Masaaki Suzuki, the Cantiamo Series, Noon Recitals, and Cool Classics at the Esplanade. She appeared as part of operas/ opera scenes, including Die Zauberflöte (Dame 2), The Old Maid and the Thief (Laetitia), and Acis & Galatea. She has also performed in masterclasses by such noted artists as Roger Vignoles, Masaaki Suzuki, Caitlin Hulcup, Elisé Chauvin, Gerda Van Zelm and Les Arts Florissants.

In addition to formal education, Alice has attended the 2019th SienAgosto summer music academy directed by Michael Chance in Siena, Italy where she had lessons with Lynne Dawson, Ian Partridge, Michael Chance, Deborah York, Elisabeth Priday, and Daniel Taylor. For the academy, Alice was generously supported by the Student Artistic Development Grant from YSTCM, NUS. 

 

Before furthering her studies in 2016, Alice studied with soprano Sylvia Wiryadi and conductor Avip Priatna. She has been a member of several choirs in Indonesia, including the Paduan Suara Anak Indonesia (directed by Aida Swenson), Batavia Madrigal Singers (directed by Avip Priatna) and The Resonanz Children Choir (directed by Devi Fransisca). In these groups, she has performed in concerts such as "Simfoni Untuk Bangsa" (Symphony for the country), "Hymn of Praise", and "Carmen". She was honoured to be a member of the Resonanz Children Choir when they won the Grand Prix Award at the 10th Cantemus International Choir Festival in Nyíregyháza, Hungary.

Besides singing, Alice also plays the piano and has received instruction from Angelica Liviana. Alice has previously had the opportunity to attend masterclasses given by world-renowned pianists such as Daniel Herscovitch, Henoch Kristianto, and Iswargia Renardi Sudarno. She placed 3rd in the Intermediate category of the Indonesia Piano Competition 2014.

Other than her classical performing career, she also has extensive teaching experience. She teaches students of all ages in various settings, including one-on-one, group, and choral settings. She teaches a variety of musical genres in addition to classical music. Her pupils has won a variety of competition and honors in Indonesia. 

​

Moreover, as a strong supporter of music education and the arts, Alice has been involved in organizing events such as musical productions, music concerts/recitals, and facilitating numerous community engagement projects, such as serving as a keynote speaker for Pesisir Mengajar (Indonesia), which was founded to teach volunteers education through music for underprivileged coastal children; producing NUANSA 2019: Lukisan Jati, an Indonesian Cultural Musical Production run by NUS students; and a keynote speaker of Voice for Miri Music Makers. She has performed as a soloist in charity performances such as ChildAid Asia Indonesia and the most recent one, "NTT Adalah Kita" with Habitat for Humanity, to benefit families who lost their houses due to the Seroja Tropical Cyclone in April 2021, alongside Ananda Sukarlan.
